BTS: HASK

Happy Thursday everyone! Although this shoot for HASK is now a few months old, we thought this would be the perfect time to revisit and share a little behind-the-scenes action (plus some before & after shots) of this very fun project. It’s always exciting to hear from a new client but even more so when they’re in the middle of rebranding their entire look. When this happens, we get thrilled at the opportunity to collaborate with our client to come up with something new and fresh.

For those of you who are unfamiliar to HASK, they are a hair care brand that is focused on delivering beauty solutions while using the latest clean and earth-friendly technology. With that in mind, I think it was an easy choice to use quite a few different elements (like the mirrors and acrylic blocks) that communicate the importance of transparency when it comes to a clean beauty brand. For the “wow” factor, we used these stunning ombre/gradient vinyl backdrops from Studio Cosita (save 15% with our affiliate link!) which only looked cooler reflected into the mirror. Since we were also shooting some product smears, we knew we had to bring in our dear friend Jenna Baucke to style this shoot and she sure did not disappoint. She truly is the queen of textures (and prop styling!) and we couldn’t have done it without her.

The post-production for this shoot was where we really took these photos to the next level. There was quite a lot of clean-up involved as well as some compositing for certain shots, like the floating group shot of HASK’s 5-in-1 sprays. Personally, I’m loving how much we’re leaning into all of the bold colors and gradients in our work which made this project so much fun to retouch. I’m sure I’ve mentioned this in the past but retouching isn’t always my “favorite” part of photography (mostly because I don’t like to sit on my butt for hours… haha!) but lately that’s starting to change for me. I think it’s because a lot of the projects we’ve been working on lately are the kind of projects I want to be doing all the time. The excitement on set naturally transitions into the post-production phase and I’m truly loving it.

See some BTS below and a few before & after shots to really see the difference (and impact) that retouching can make on your work. :)
