Resources: Emil Cohen's Creative Freelancer Guide

As some of you may know, we’re pretty regular hosts of Adobe Live and we often make new friends every time we host. A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of hosting Billy Green of Wit & Vinegar and we had a ton of fun during his 2 day stream. We’ve been following him on Instagram ever since and he recently shared this freelancer guide by a creative friend of his named Emil Cohen.

Emil is a New York based photographer and former photo editor of the New York Times. If you have the chance right now, go look him up on Instagram. His black & white portraits are to die for. I mean, he’s photographed Tan France of Queer Eye for crying out loud. That pretty much says it all.

So thank you Billy for sharing Emil on your stories because he recently created this tiny but mighty resource called Creative Freelancer’s Guide: Navigate the Hiring Process with Confidence. Emil’s guide is quick and informative which makes it very easy to digest for anyone who is just getting started out there. Having been on both sides of the creative freelance industry, Emil does an amazing job of explaining the ins and outs of work-for-hire.

Some of these helpful tips include always having a paper trail, negotiating terms of use, and being professional. I especially love that Emil includes examples of verbiage you could use in certain situations. Make sure to check out his short but sweet guide for a breakdown of what you need to be doing with every project you take on as a freelancer. Make sure to follow Emil on social media and leave us a comment if you’ve come across any other helpful freelancing guides.
