Inspiration 23 / Vivian Maier

All

I've never been good with words. It takes me an unusually long time to write something as simple as a caption or a blog post. Photography, however, has been the easiest way for me to share something with someone almost instantaneously. It's the reason why I love Vivian Maier's work so much.

I first learned of Vivian Maier in a photo history class at my university and she's been a major source of inspiration since. Vivian was an American street film photographer who captured over thousands of photos in the second half of the twentieth century while living in New York City. Her work, however, was only discovered in 2007 by a man named John Maloof at a local thrift auction house in Chicago. Since then, her images have been seen by people all over the world.

I could try and explain what I love about her photography but it wouldn't be as good as seeing her images for yourself. Take a peek at some of my favorites below and check out the Vivian Maier website for more. I would also highly recommend watching the film Finding Vivian Maier (it's on Netflix).
