Hi all, we are back with another resources post! We’ve been holding on to this one for a little while now but only because we were waiting to announce some exciting news. I know many of you have been asking us if we were going to create or release some kind of educational course in the future and I promise that we haven’t ignored your requests. The thing is, creating a course is a lot of freaking hard work. Running our business, working on client projects, and producing our educational content (aka our blog) takes up so much of our time already that thinking about planning and producing a course sounds a bit exhausting.

So we put that idea on the back burner until we had some free time to flesh it out. And then literally out of nowhere, this amazing opportunity came knocking at our door several months ago when Domestika, an online creative community, reached out to us and wanted to talk about potentially creating a photography course. We would take care of planning the structure of it and they would help us produce the entire thing. Want to know the craziest part? We would have to do it all in Spain because that’s where they’re located. Say what? I know.

To be honest, I think we both were a little shocked and thought maybe this was fake. Lucky for us, it wasn’t. Well, fast forward to today. We’ve been working on this for a little while now and originally we anticipated flying out early May for a week to shoot the entire course. However, I think it’s safe to say that we likely will have to postpone our trip if our current situation continues the way it’s going. The good news is that we’ll just have more time to flesh out our course and make it the best it can be. Super exciting stuff you guys! Anyway, enough about us, let’s talk about Domestika and why they are such an awesome company.

As we mentioned before, Domestika is an online community where you can access creative courses taught by expert professionals from various industries. Truthfully, we had never heard of them before until they reached out and part of that reason may be because they’re based in Spain and the majority of their courses, if not all, are taught in Spanish.

One of the things we immediately noticed about Domestika that really set them apart for us from many other educational course websites was how up to date some of their photography classes were. Even though I hate the word trendy, it’s the only word I can think of to describe what I mean by up to date. I’m talking about those kinds of images with playful colors, fun set design, and cool props that we all obsess over. It was a nice surprise to find even some of our favorite photographers on there who have created their own course such as Paul Fuentes, Vega Hernando, and Paloma Rincon.

Elle and I ended up actually purchasing one of the photography courses, which by the way, are totally affordable. Their classes are almost always discounted and they range from $9 to about $28. Better yet, if you choose to sign up for Domestika PRO, you’ll get additional discounts and free courses every month. We purchased the Art Direction & Creativity in Movement course by Flaminguettes and I can’t tell you how much we learned. The courses are carefully structured in a way that not only teaches you but forces you to complete tasks within every unit so that you can apply everything that you are learning. Easy enough right?

I have a good feeling that Elle and I will be purchasing a few more of these courses in the future since photography isn’t the only type of course they have. You can find courses relating to business, illustration, design, craft, calligraphy, video, and more. Seeing as we are all still very much in this quarantine life right now, I would highly suggest everyone check them out if you’re interested in learning something new.

Educating yourself during this time is one of the easiest ways to grow as a creative and what better way than to do it from the comfort of your own space. With that being said, I would like to mention that Domestika has invited us to do a Facebook Live with them where we will get to introduce ourselves to their community and share ways that creatives and freelancers can grow their business during downtime. The Facebook Live will occur on Friday, April 24th from 9am to 10am. Please feel free to tune in and ask questions in the chat, we will be more than happy to answer them.

That is it for today’s resource post, or shall I say tonight because for some reason it takes me a million years to write anything. Make sure to follow Domestika on social media and check out all of their amazing courses. You won’t be disappointed.
